Give every task its own timer, label it with the client or project it is for, and download the day as a timesheet when it is done. Every 25 minutes of work fills a block beside your tasks, so your weeks stay on record. Nothing to sign up for: your tasks stay in this browser.
What is a time tracker for freelancers?
A time tracker for freelancers records how long you spend on each task and for which client, so you can show your hours and get paid for them. It needs no seats, approvals or screenshots: just a timer you start and stop.
How do I track billable hours?
Billable hours are the hours you can invoice a client for. Track them as you work rather than at the end of the week, when the day is already a guess.
- Add the task: Type what you are working on and press Enter. It joins the day, ready to start.
- Press play: Start its timer when you start the work. Only one runs at a time: starting another task stops the one before it.
- Add a label: Label the task with a client, a project or a kind of work. Give a client's label its hourly rate once and every task shows what it comes to.
- Mark it done: From the task's menu. A finished task stays on the day with its time, and in your record after that.
- Look back: Every 25 minutes on a task fills a block in its label's color, or the block length you choose in Timer settings. Point at a block to see the task, the day and the hours.
How does the Pomodoro technique work with time tracking?
The Pomodoro technique splits work into 25-minute blocks with a 5-minute break between them. Turn on breaks in Timer settings and your timer stops each time a task's block fills, so breaks never reach your timesheet, and a timer you forgot stops at the end of its block instead of running all night. Blocks and breaks can be longer or shorter, and a soft chime tells you when each one ends.
Should I round my time?
Many freelancers round each task up to the next 6 or 15 minutes. Say how you round in your contract, and keep the exact time too: this tracker keeps both, and rounds only the files you download.
How do I turn my hours into an invoice?
Open Ready, check each client's total and download the timesheet to send with your invoice. To get paid, invoice your clients with Ruul in 190 countries, even without a registered company.
Questions
Is this time tracker free?
Yes. There is nothing to sign up for, and your tasks stay in your browser.
Where is my time saved?
In this browser only. Clearing your browser's data clears it too, so download your timesheet to keep a copy.
Can I track time for more than one client?
Yes. Make a label for each client with their hourly rate, then pick it on a task.
What are the blocks next to my tasks?
Each block is 25 minutes of work on one task, in its label's color, unless you choose another length in Timer settings. A faint block is part of one: 40 minutes make a full block and a faint one. Point at a block to see what it was.
What if I forget to stop the timer?
With breaks on, the timer stops when its block fills. Either way, you can type the right time into the task: "1:15" and "75" both work.
Does a Pomodoro break count as work time?
No. With breaks on, the timer stops for the break, so it never reaches your timesheet.
