GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a form of VAT (Value Added Tax) in India, applied to the supply of goods and services.
The threshold limit for GST registration is 20 lakhs INR in a financial year (there some exceptions for special category states, where the limit is 10 lakhs INR).
If your annual income is less than the threshold limit (20 lakhs INR), you don't have to register for GST. You can also claim GST exemption for your cross-border work, as it falls under "foreign inward remittance". GST-registered freelance workers need to file GST-compliant invoices, and pay the due amount accordingly.
FIRC (Foreign Inward Remittance Certificate) is a document proving foreign transfers (inward remittances) to India. Providing FIRCs for cross-border freelance work is necessary to claim exemption for GST.
